I'm officially sick.

That's why I haven't been posting the past couple days. I have to go out of town tomorrow for my doctor's appointment. I've also officially decided not to participate in Febooary, after reading this little post. There's one word that sticks out there, "non-mandatory." Um... I'm sorry, but you can't legally require me to answer a question! Febooary wasn't started to legally bind participants to answer questions, it was simply started to be a fun audio exercise, and to allow people to make friends. If I want to wing it, (or be as freeform as I want, and offend as many people with the use of that word as I did last year,) than I'm going to do it! I think I only answered a few of the questions in 2013. I almost skipped one, and that's how we got "yeah, I'm still here." I might have to upload something on 2/19, just for kicks.

I got up early this morning.

I set my alarm for 6:30, to be exact. I wanted to watch the service NASA was holding, it started at 7, so I got up at 6:30. There was also a debate tonight, we all know how I like watching debates! I actually had a hard time streaming this one, for some strange reason. I couldn't get the streams to work. I had to use Tunein, and listen that way. On a completely unrelated note, today is also the second anniversary of the oral arguments in my very first appellate case.

Today and tomorrow.

I finally got my lab tests done! I did eat before I went though, so my blood sugar might be a bit high, last time this happened, my primary doctor got a bit paranoid. Fortunately, I'm not seeing my primary doctor. After that we had to make a quick trip to Wallgreens, I discovered I didn't have any day/night cold tablets, and if I'm about to get sick, I needed some of those. On a completely unrelated note, tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of the Challenger explosion. Why do I know this? I wasn't exactly old enough to actually remember anything from it, but I did a research paper on it when I was in high school.

I don't particularly want to get sick.

I just had to wake up with a soar throat this morning. I really hope I don't get sick, because I'd like to enjoy the day trip I'm taking on Monday, (at least the non-doctor's appointment part, anyway.) I never enjoy the doctor's appointments, I always leave with a long list of instructions, which have gotten worse in the past 6 months. Last time, she asked me to track fluid intake, and volume output. I really don't want to do that again!

The wasted trip.

When I schedule my out-of-town doctor's appointments, they always tell me to go have blood tests taken a week prior to the appointment. I tried to do that today, but for some strange and unknown reason, the lab order wasn't in the system here. I ended up having to call the doctor's office, and have the nurse call me back, so that the doctor could resubmit the lab order. I'll have to go back in Wednesday for the tests. I did take a quick trip to WalMart, to get a couple things, but other than that, it was pretty much a wasted trip. I always like to fast before my lab tests to make sure I drink enough water, (sometimes I find that when I'm eating, I don't drink as much as when I'm fasting,) not only that, but I had one time when my blood sugar was particularly high. I had to have an A1C test after that, and my A1C was perfectly fine. If I fast before taking lab tests, I won't have any problems with that.

Strange TV issues.

Well actually, I blame my kitty for causing the issues. He decided to start playing with the cord for my digital antenna, so I put the cord underneath it. Unfortunately, this caused the antenna to flake out for some reason, (it wasn't sitting on a flat surface, most likely.) I wasn't getting my local CBS affiliate while this was happening, (but I was when it was sitting on a flat surface.) I even tried moving the antenna into the window, but even though my dad said he got it to stay there, I couldn't for some reason, and that didn't work. I just had to take the cord out from underneath it, which means the cat will probably end up chewing on the cord

A few things going on here.

  1. Melissa's up for jury duty this month. She was supposed to go in today, but she somehow forgot.

  2. I have one of my out-of-town doctor's appointments on February 1st.

  3. I'm supposed to have labs done a week before my appointment, which could be a problem if Melissa has to go in for jury duty Monday.

  4. We didn't have a good night here last night. Kitty seems to be building up a tolerance to the spray I ordered to keep him calm at night. I had to get up for a few minutes, and as soon as I went back into the room, he came right up next to the door and started meowing. I thought he would calm down eventually, but he didn't, and he did it again a few minutes later, and again. Eventually I just ended up sleeping on the couch.

We failed at installing baby locks.

When you have a cat who likes to hide in the weirdest places, you need baby locks. My cat has taken to hiding in the cupboard with my pots and pans, and I really don't want cat hair in my dishes! I had to go on a shopping trip earlier, (grocery shopping,) so I picked up some baby locks. What I don't have however, are power tools, I need a drill to install these things, apparently.

This is my 1750th post!

I also skipped last night's post because I fell asleep, so I needed to make it up. I did one of those things where I fell asleep on the couch, but once I hit the bed, it took forever for me to get to sleep! I'm definitely not a fan of those things!

Planning Febooary topics.

I'm planning to participate in Febooary, (like I usually do,) but this time, I'm going to be planning my own topics. That way I won't just have to wing it when I decide not to answer the question provided. I'll be posting them on Sound Upload, and archiving them here as I usually do.

Updating domain registration records.

Today I got an email that looked interesting. It said "Whois confirmation for" That's one of the 4 domains I own. The email basically said that ICANN wants to make sure all my registrant information is updated once a year. Of course I moved after registering, and forgot to update my address on not only that domain, but all of my registrant information. I had to sign into my Hover account and update the addresses on 4 domains tonight, individually! Not only that, I had to do this multiple times, because there are multiple places where you enter your name and address when registering a domain. Lol, it's like working with the SsA!
When I called the SSA the first time to change my address, they didn't put it through for some reason. It took me calling them a second time, waiting on hold for an hour, and a call from my local office for my address change to be finalized! I'm still not sure if it's finalized for them sending me notices, that's what the local office has on file now, but who knows if they'll actually send notices to the right address?

Something hilarious happened in church today.

My pastor was preaching a sermon on loving others, (and the difference between love and affection.) He was almost at the end, and he wanted to finish with Luke 19: 1-9. This is the story of Zaccheus the tax collector, and how Jesus went to his house. I'll quote it here from BibleGateway

19 Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
2 Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.
3 And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature.
4 So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way.
5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him,and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”
6 So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.
7 But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.”

8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”

9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham;

The hilarity came when he got to verse 7: "7 But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.” Pastor was wondering who "they" were, and he ended up saying things like the PC police, we were all starting to laugh, when someone several rows behind me, (I usually sit in the third or fourth row,) yelled "democrats!" Everyone cracked up laughing! Lol pastor said if there are any democrats in here we love you, but hah ha hah! I wish I would have recorded that, it was absolutely hilarious!

Something else that happened yesterday.

Besides getting my TV set up yesterday, we also went to the courthouse to update my voter registration form. I needed to change the address on the form, and hadn't gotten to it yet, (it took me several months to update my address with the SSA. The first time they didn't put it through, and for some reason, it took me calling them a second time for them to finally realize I have a new place of residence. I also had to call Freedom Scientific, (the company that makes JAWS,) to update my address with them last month, but they never sent me a disk for JAWS 17, I'm thinking it got sent to the old place anyway. I think if my parents had a disk at their house, they'd probably tell me, (or at least I hope they would.)

I now have a working TV!

No, I didn't just sign up for cable. I got a digital antenna for Christmas, and I got it set up today! I had to get a remote for the TV before I could set it up, because I didn't have one. The one I was using at my old apartment was a dish remote, because I was hooked up to dish. I actually get NBc, ABC, and CBS reliably, which are the 3 local channels I watch most anyway. I get some public broadcasting channels, a couple of which appear to be pretty good, but a couple of which seem to cut in an out a lot. Those might be good if I ever want to watch Frontline again, which I have once or twice. Of course the one thing I'm missing is CSPAN, which doesn't do live streaming anymore. If I want CNN, I can just turn on the Tunein stream. I'm not a big fan of CNN's love for all things NSA, but they do make for hilarious election night coverage, which is what I'll mostly be using them for. Lol one year they got so loopy, everyone was laughing on TV while they were waiting for returns to come in, it was absolutely hilarious!

I watched the debate tonight.

This is going to be a quick post, as it's after 11, and I'd like to get to bed. I had fun watching the debate tonight! I always have fun watching the debates though, (or at least the ones that are being streamed.) This debate was about 2 and a half hours long, (so it was longer than all the others.) I actually started out listening to a local radio station, but they lost the stream at some point, so I switched to Fox business, and they were doing a live stream of the debate on their site. From what I've heard, there's going to be another debate at the end of this month, on the 28th.

I ended up falling asleep on the couch last night. I wanted to go right back to sleep, so I just shut everything down. I should've written a post, but I didn't. I've had this problem where when I wake myself up I've had trouble getting back to sleep, so I really didn't want to wake myself up to write a post. I'll try not to skip so many from now on.

Monday, January 11, 2016

random thoughts.

  1. I should get back to the Thursday lister.

  2. I want to bake something, that just sounds fun right now, unfortunately I don't have the stuff for baking, and I won't be going shopping for a while.

  3. My dad tried to set up my digital antenna yesterday, he failed to get it working. I think it's because we don't know where the broadcast towers are for this area.

  4. Melissa left early today because we ran out of things for her to do, sometimes that happens.

  5. Besides list updates, this is my first list of blog 365, and it's a make-up post because I skipped last night, it still counts.

Late list updates!

I'm finally getting around to doing list updates for this month! Yeah they're extremely late!
Goals started:

  • 22. Do blog 365 again, starting January 1st, 2016. I obviously started this one on 1/1.

  • 74. Get a new Christmas tree, and put it up at least twice during the 3 years. We put the tree up on 12/4, it was an early Christmas present from my parents.

Goals completed:
131. Set up automatic billpay on at least 2 of my bills. I don't know when I completed this one. I know I've set up autopay on all my bills but one now, I think I did the last one last month, so I'll say December 2015.

I keep forgetting to do list updates.

I have no idea why either. I should've done them 3 days ago, and I just forgot! It takes a bit for me to get everything together, so i'll try to do them tomorrow. I skipped them last month, because I was in the middle of some really bad headaches, and I was taking a blogging break to get ready for this challenge. It isn't that I don't want to do them, it's just that after I publish each day's post, I'm going oh crap, that should've been a list update post! Oh well, they'll get done tomorrow. On an unrelated note, the cat calming spray worked wonders! Yay for that!

Package update!

I finally got the packages I've been waiting for! This is a good thing, because if I didn't get them today, I would've had to wait until Monday, which with my cat acting the way he's acting at night, I really don't want to do that! One of the things I ordered was cat calming spray. The other was dark roka for mom and I. I'm hoping the spray works, and I can actually get some decent sleep tonight!

If anyone wants a cat...

This is going to be a short post, because I was kept up for like the second night in a row by my idiotic cat who meows all night and won't be quiet for anything! He absolutely will not let me sleep!

Shipping weirdness.

Let's just say I'm not a huge fan of USPS. I ordered some dark chocolate almond roka for mom and I, and some calming spray for my cat on Sunday. None of it has arrived yet. The almond roka was sold by an Amazon marketplace merchant, (I'm not a fan of those, either,) but the spray was sold by Amazon. Amazon says the package, (the one fulfilled by amazon,) has been transferred to the post office for delivery using UPS Sure Post. UPS Sure Post is a pain in my rear! Instead of using UPS to deliver it straight to me, Amazon thinks that somehow I'll be able to drive down to my mailbox. The other package says it's supposed to arrive on Friday, problem is, it was supposed to arrive today. USPS, (because Amazon marketplace merchants love USPs,) for some stupid reason, says it's in transit. I paid for expedited shipping on both things, one was absolutely supposed to be here today, the other one was supposed to come between the 5th and the 8th, (since Amazon can't tell it's merchants to use UPS 3-day select.)

No, I didn't park in your space.

I had a lady knock on my door to ask if I parked in her parking space today. I was like well since I can't drive because I can't see, it probably wasn't me. She was asking because apparently there's been a random car parked there all night last night, and today. A car is something I don't own, and if I did own a car, I have my own parking space, so I don't think I'd need to use someone elses parking spot.
On a completely unrelated note, the day I've worried about ever since I posted my first tweet on July 12th, 2007, has come. My mother has found her way to Twitter. I always thought my sister would join Twitter first, apparently I was wrong. It was very strange, all of a sudden I received a notification that one of my contacts had joined Twitter, I was shocked that it was her. In the past, I've said that if she ever found her way to Twitter, I'd probably have to delete my account. She's lectured me about certain things I've posted on Facebook in the past, and if she finds my account I'll probably get a big lecture. Not that I'd actually leave Twitter though, I'd probably just change the username and keep posting.

I went back to church today.

I went back to church today, after missing last Sunday for CCC. Lol I went back today, but my pastor wasn't back from vacation yet! They said he'll be back next Sunday. On a completely unrelated note, I ordered some dark chocolate almond roka for my mom and I from Amazon. The order isn't fulfilled by Amazon, it's one of those ridiculous Amazon marketplace merchants. Why do all Amazon marketplace merchants insist on using USPS? I don't know the answer to that question, but it's well... a huge pain to put it nicely! The mail box is in a place where you have to pretty much drive to it. UPS delivers straight to me, whereas UsPS will probably make me go pick up a parcel if it's big, (which this one is.)

Some of the things I got for Christmas.

Lol well, I just wanted to talk about Christmas in general. Christmas went really well, with all the drama leading up to it, I'm surprised there wasn't actually any drama on the day itself! One of the things we did differently this year, is not do dinner Christmas eve. In fact we didn't do anything Christmas eve. I was going to try to go to church, but that's another story for another day.
My dad came around 10 to pick me up. There were a few things we had to do before leaving. By then I was pretty much done rushing, because I had to rush around to make sure I got everything done before I left, even though I was observing CET at the time, and was up at around 3. I didn’t start doing things until around 7. My sister got there at around 11, but we didn’t start opening gifts until around 12.
I think I got everything on my list and then some. Of course I don’t remember what I had on the list, (because I really didn’t make a list this year.) I ended up getting a printer, a cat tower, (it’s like a 4-foot tall cat tree,) a digital antenna, some cat toys, and a few other small things.

Happy New Year!

First, I'd like to wish everyone a happy New year! Second, this is the beginning of blog 365! I did complete this in 2011, (as far as I remember.) I might have skipped a few, but overall, I did blog straight through the year. I'm definitely not doing this on my linkblog at the same time! I think I'd have trouble keeping up with both of them, maybe next year I'll try something like that.) Currently I'm still in the process of posting 32c3 lectures, which I should finish by tomorrow.
As for my New Years eve celebrations, I didn't really do much of anything. I caught up on some of those lectures, (I had a couple concurrent ones,) then at 11, I streamed the ball drop on CNN, (CNN has a Tunein radio stream, which is the same stuff that's on CNN,) so I started that. It's really cool because you can't actually stream CNN without a cable subscription, but now you can, if you just want the audio! I didn't end up going to bed until around 1, and got up around 9:30.
