Thoughts on Citizenfour.

So I said I would come back and write a post about Citizenfour. Well... here it goes... I did happen to read up on the movie beforehand, and this was a good thing, because there were a lot of silent scenes in it. Most of them were fairly short, but the fact that I knew what was happenening in most of the silent scenes was a good thing, and made things easier to follow. I would not have watched it by myself had I not read articles on it, but the foreign language scenes and the lack of structure and shorter scenes toward the end did make things a bit difficult. Poitras only reads 4 of Snowden's emails so you hear lots and lots of typing, and as a person who can't see, I have no idea who's doing the typing! By reading beforehand, I know that the rest of the emails do end up on screen, and that's where some of the silent scenes come from, and I have a feeling some of the typing. I did see the emails, (I think in November 2014, when the movie first came out,) and I would like to look at those again, so that I know what came up on screen. I would also like to get the foreign language translations somehow. There were 3 of those scenes 2 of them were relatively short, but one of them was very long, and I was starting to think that it was taking up too much time.
Toward the end, Snowden and Greenwald communicate with pen and paper, they do this while talking, but they're sort of halfway talking and halfway using pen and paper, (you really half to see it to understand the scene,) it isn't a completely silent scene, but certain sections of it are semi-silent. I knew this was going to happen beforehand, but I thought the scene was going to be completely silent, to my surprise it wasn't, so it was a bit easier to follow. Citizenfour was very in-depth, Poitras even somehow got the camera into an oral argument of the ninth Circuit court of appeals. I'm not sure how that happened, as video footage of oral arguments is very rare, (although that could have just been audio.) They even referenced the legal case I was following from August 2013 to April 2014. Overall, I did think it was a very good behind-the-scenes look at what happened, which is what I was looking for, and yes, I would say it covered everything decently, even the choosing of which documents to publish. Now I do have this link, which I did put in IE because I have NoScript running in Firefox, I'm not sure that it's completely legal, but never-the-less, I'll post it anyway. It isn't a torrent or anything, I opened the link in IE, and things started playing automatically for me. I didn't have to download a client to download a torrent file. This link actually came from a Twitter search I was doing, someone tweeted it, and I lost the tweet so I couldn't retweet. I ended up tweeting and having to use an URL shortener because the tweet was too long.

Febooary 22nd: Answering today's question, and talking about Citizenfour.

In this recording I answer the question, "what is one word to describe your home and why?" I also talk about the fact that the documentary about Edward Snowden, and how he leaked the NSA documents, "Citizenfour," won the Oscar for best documentary tonight. After the awards were over, I found a tweet with a link in it that let me watch Citizenfour, I'll be writing my thoughts in the next post. I've also uploaded an archived recording of me cheering, that I recorded from Blogathon 2013, (it's probably imported here somewhere, but I'm not sure if the Audioboo entries got imported from Tumblr to, and then from the Wordpress importer plugin. This was most of my reaction as soon as the presentor said and the Oscar goes to... Citizenfour! except for the fact that I had to apologize to my neighbors because I jumped up and down several times!

Melissa left today.

She was waiting for a callback from a lawyer that also represents her mother, and he never called back. Since she didn't get an answer from him as to whether he would take her case, she decided to take a break until she hears back from him, or can contact other attorneys. If you've been listening to my Febooary recordings, you know a bit more about what's happened, but given that there could be a possible legal case and civil discovery could come out of it, I really shouldn't say much more on the subject, and I've probably said way, way too much already!

Today wasn't exactly a good day.

So as I said in the Febooary recording, Melissa has to leave, or risk being sued for noncompete by her former agency. Now 2 lawyers she has met with have both told her this. The one she met with today thought the legal notice she got from them was mostly a scare tactic, but then apparently one thing jumped out at him, and she didn't remember what that thing was when she came after she was done meeting with him.
As I said on February 5th, this all started because my (now soon to be former case worker,) called the agency about a half hour after we both talked to him, (I talked to him to ask when Melissa could start working, and she talked to him because she had questions for him.) He did admit to calling them and telling them why she was leaving in phone conversations we both had with him today. I asked him why he did that even though he did it a half hour after telling me he couldn't, and he said he couldn't remember saying that to me. This basically means that he's either lying or saying that he can't remember that he lied in the first place, or he really can't remember what he told me literally a half hour before calling the agency. I told him that all Melissa told the agency before as to why she was leaving, is that she got a new job. I asked him something like, "don't you think that had they not found out exactly why she was leaving, that they would never have sent her a legal notice?" He answered yes to that question. I did leave a message with his supervisor yesterday, but she never called me back. Instead I got another call from him at just before 5 this afternoon. He said, "I understand you've lost confidence in me as a case manager?" I basically said something like "well... with this whole situation, that's correct." He said that since the offices of senior and disability services were recently combined, he was going to transfer some of his cases over to the senior side, but mine wasn't one of them. He asked if I wanted my case transferred and I said yes.

I almost thought UPS lost my package.

I did a order on Wednesday morning. I actually tried to do it on Tuesday night, but I had problems placing the order, and the site wouldn't let me get past "verifying shipping address..." I'm not exactly sure why that happened, but I had to call them and list every! single! item in my cart over the phone, which was really annoying! The order never showed up in my online account, (and I wish it would, although the items are still in my cart.) Anyway, I sent the ship notification, (which contained the tracking number,) to Shiprack, (which is the package tracking app I use.) It was giving me notifications about where the package was, until Thursday night, then all tracking activity stopped. There was absolutely no tracking activity until 4 this morning, when the package arrived in Portland. I actually thought UPS lost the package, which led me to contact nuts.comand ask them what to do. I first started the contact over Twitter, and they told me to contact customer service via email. I did that, and they promptly told me to wait until the expected delivery date, (which is Monday.) I did pay for 3 day select on this package, and I'm surprised it didn't get here by Friday, because it did ship on Wednesday.

The events of the past few days.

As I said in my Febooary recordings, my caregiver started her new schedule on Monday. She officially got on the state registry on Friday, which means she had to leave the home care agency she was working for. She did have a noncompete clause in her contract, but she believed she signed it within less than 2 weeks of her start date which makes the whole thing non-enforcible.
Unfortunately, her former boss sent her a lawyer's letter on Wednesday accusing her of soliciting me to get on the state registry. When you look up the definition of the term "soliciting," there are literally like 5 or 6 definitions there, it actually just means asking for something. If I say, "can I have some peas for lunch?" that's soliciting, just because I'm asking a question. It also means asking a person or group for help or money. Now I guess you could argue that asking me to email my case worker was soliciting, but she's also asked me to call and/or text my mother on various occasions, (one such occasion was when we were trying to get mileage for my out-of-town doctor's appointment approved.) Basically, she's trying to get her to pay the $6000 noncompete fee, and stop working for me within 14 days, (which mom and I are both sure is illegal.)
The reason why all this happened, is because on Friday when I called my case worker to ask when she could start, I asked him who needed to call the agency to tell them I was leaving, could he do it or could I do it? He said I had to do it, I was really nervous about that whole thing, so Melissa offered to call and start the conversation for me. While she was doing that, the lady she was talking to said the following: "we just got a call from someone next-door, we know you're leaving to be Noelle's private caregiver... surprise!" There was a leak somewhere, and although my case worker said he couldn't call the agency, it came less than a half hour after talking to him, so it was either him or someone in his office.
We basically need to consult with an attorney, Melissa is going to legal aid, but I'm not sure if they take civil cases. Mom said she should look for one who can take on a contingency. She basically needs to find out if we have enough of a defense against the agency's case, or if we just need to pay the noncompete fine. I told her I would help pay the fine, but if there are any legal fees involved, I probably wouldn't be able to afford those things.

Tonight at play practice.

Tonight we worked on the entrance part of the angel dance. This means that I had to learn to march, I've taken 2 years of ballet, but I've never marched before in my life. I have a partner named Dawn, and she's going to explain the steps to me so that I can learn them. When we were marching, the dance teacher wanted us to put our left hand in the air, the problem is, that's the hand I was holding Dawn's arm with. We solved that problem by having her hold her hand behind her back, and me holding her hand, then the dance teacher, (who also directs the play,) will be giving me a banner to hold with the other hand. I think we must have ran through the march like 10-20 times.
