Recapping Blogathon 2013.

At first I didn’t think I needed to write a recap post for this one, but I decided to because there are some things I learned, (some things I wish I would have done,) and that infamous singing thing that I probably really do need to explain. I’d also like to again thank my mom, my grandma, Ron, and Kim for donating! The things I’ve learned mostly had to do with using PayPal, I have never been much of a PayPal user before this, (I did have an account, but I definitely preferred to use the much easier, “PayPal account optional” feature, which allows you to pay with a credit card when using it. This feature wasn’t implemented in this case, causing us to have problems with empty PayPal accounts that didn’t contain funds. I won’t tried to explain the PayPal issues in full here, because that would just make this post longer than it already will be, but I’m pretty sure I actually know what the problem is, (although without looking at the account I can’t be 100% sure.)
Another thing I learned came from posting on my linkblog, My Web Adventures! I ended up posting 20 links during the event. I was posting the links from a folder in Instapaper, that I hadn’t cleaned out beforehand. The folder had lots of old stuff in there that needed to be gotten rid of to make it easier to sort through and find links to post, and that should have been taken care of last week sometime. Instead, I spent time doing it during the 24 hours, which probably slowed me down a bit. Speaking of slowing me down, I’m not sure what contributed to my chronic lateness, but I think I have an idea. I was copying and pasting the post signatures, manually putting in timestamps, and trying to remember to tag the posts, and most of the time, I had to do some of these things after the fact, because I just didn’t have time. I’m not saying that those things caused the lateness, but I will say that all those mechanical parts slowed me down a bit. I wish I would have taken the time to do more Audioboos, last year I think I did at least 8 or 9, since I was doing something else on the side though, I didn’t really have extra time.
Now to explain the singing thing, (the Audioboo is here.) In order for me to explain this, I have to say that after 5 years running, this will be my last Blogathon (at least for a while. I’ve known this for at least a couple months now, and I like what our pastor said in one of his sermons. He said something like, “we have to have mile posts, not hitching posts.” When he said that, he was talking about change, and how we can’t hold on to something just because it’s what we’ve always done. I started doing Blogathon in 2006, when I was about to turn 23, and now I’m about to turn 30. Sure, there’s a chance that I’ll do Blogathon again in the future, I just don’t know when. This is why when I was dared to sing at almost 4 in the morning on Sunday morning, by Audioboo and Twitter user TheBooMagnet, at first I wasn’t going to do it, because I’ve been specifically told not to sing by my friend Mark, when I did this in 2010. Of course I was in that wonderful loopy state you get into when you stay up for 24 hours though, and I started thinking about things. I started thinking about how this would be my last event, and I started crying, and then I was 10 minutes late on a post because of that. Then I had to figure out what I wanted to sing, and then I sang while taking 3 minutes while trying not to cry while singing.

This is the end.

So, my 7th Blogathon is complete! I would of course like to thank the people who are and/or will be donating to the Dream Center, I’ve managed to raise $75 so far. Mom and Grandma are both donating $25, Kim is donating $20, and Ron is donating $5. Because of the issues with PayPal these donations are arriving via check. I would next like to thank everyone who played a part in supporting me in this event, (those people who made an appearance in that list of people I thanked yesterday are in there„) but they’re worth mentioning again. Mom, for cutting my hair, and driving me to my doctor’s appointment. My Facebook friends, (and blog/twitter followers,) for putting up with all the ridiculous pitching, Melissa who took me grocery shopping and prepared chef salad for me Wednesday, Sylvia from the Dream Center, for listening to all my complaints about the PayPal issues, (and trust me, I did really complain.) Not only that, but everyone who mentioned me on twitter, left comments on my Facebook statuses, and Jess, for coming by and leaving a comment or 2. I’m not sure when I’ll get back to regular writing on the blog again, usually it takes a few days to a week after, I’m also not sure when I’ll sleep. Right now I’m not tired, and I kind of feel the same way I did last year, which means I did a good job with the process! It also means that when I post this, and do the things I need to do, and let myself go to bed I’ll probably get to sleep right after my head hits the pillow. Thanks again everyone! I can’t come up with a different ending song, so I’ll just use the one I used last year, I tend to associate this with sad endings, but here it is anyway:

Last set of questions before the end.

Because I haven’t done very many of these, and because I like answering questions, I’m going to make the post before the last one a list of questions.

  1. 1. Do you eat breakfast daily? Yeah, I usually do, unless I’m in a hurry to get somewhere.

  2. 2. What is your favourite time of day? (Why?) Early morning, because I just seem to get more done then, or feel more rejuvenated. I actually feel my best right now at like 5:20, after staying up for around 25 hours.) Yeah I said 25, I got up early!

  3. 3. What is your cell phone service provider? Verizon, and I’m on a family plan.

  4. 4. How many pillows are on your bed? 3 that I’m remembering right now.

This is a way better version...

This is definitely a better version of the song I sang, than the way I just sang it, and it’s the full song:

I've been dared to do something I said I'd never do again.

Yeah… I’ve been dared to sing by Audioboo and Twitter user TheBooMagnet. I promised our mutual friend Mark, (who specifically told me not to sing in 2010!) that I would never do that again

Not having anything to say on Audioboo seems hilarious!

Because well… it’s an Audio recording service, and it’s almost 3:30 AM… OK? When I warned everyone about stream of consciousness writing, this is exactly what I meant, it tends to come from anything and anywhere at this time of the morning! But seriously… if you listen to the Boo I just recorded, I start off talking about how I was going to try and get it done around 3, and how it was kind of late, (because it was.) Then, I talk about flirting with my posting time, (I lied because at this point, I’m starting to forget my posting times… OK?) Then I come to a point where I just have absolutely nothing more to say at all! I think I said I’d get there at some point, either in an earlier boo, or in the one I posted yesterday, (I’m not quite sure.)

I'm still eating chocolate at almost 3 AM.

OK OK, not a lot, and I haven’t even finished this whole container of chocolate covered potato chips, but I figured I should probably eat something, and these are sitting right next to me on my desk so yeah. I just finished my cup of instant coffee a little bit ago, and I’m about to go record the Audioboo after I publish this post. After this one, I’ll do one more Audioboo at the end, and that’s it until tomorrow.

Things flying through my mind.

  1. 1. Oh crap, I forgot to record the next audioboo!

  2. 2. Oh yeah, I wasn’t going to do that until 3:00 anyway.

  3. 3. If I could just post one more link on my linkblog, I could get to 20 for today, yeah… that’s completely unrelated to anything, except for something fun I was trying to do on the side hwile doing Blogathon. It did work, except for the fact that I need to find one last link!

  4. 4. Seriously… why do I have so many windows open? I should probably close some of them!

I'm going to list...

5 windows open on your computer right now, (if you have 5.)

  1. 1. This one, which is the Tumblr bookmarklet, which I’m using to post.

  2. 2. The questions file, that I took this list from.

  3. 3. Tumblr, for some reason. Not the posting window, just the site itself.

  4. 4. The text file with my signature in it that has to be copied and pasted in every time.

  5. 5. At least 3 Facebook windows.

  6. 6. My linkblog twice.

  7. 7. An audioboo window for some reason, (twice.)

  8. 8. My documents twice.

  9. 9. Instapaper.

I'm going to go make my coffee.

Well after I publish this that is. It’s quite cold in here from the AC, (which is keeping me awake, so I do need it,) so I’d like to make the instant coffee I have, so I have something warm to drink. I’m just hoping I can do a better job of not spilling it than last year, because I think I really made a mess! I actually ended up not putting enough in, then trying to put too much in, (seriously, how do I remember this stuff at almost 1:30 AM?) and that’s when I spilt it.

Let's talk about email.

  • I use Gmail for my Email service.

  • I use they’re basic HTML feature, instead of using a software client.

  • I don’t use any sort of email encryption, even though I know I should. Actually it was linking to Lockbin, which is a service that allows you to send email securely on my linkblog, that inspired me to write this post.

  • I’ve looked for an alternative to Gmail for a while, (preferably one that allows me to use a domain name, and web-based email,) and not found a decent one.)

More questions from the file, (because they're fun!)

  1. 1. I say cottage cheese. You say: Blech! Because I really don’t like the stuff!

  2. 2. When was the last time you danced like a crazy person? Hmm… you’d have to ask the people around me, but maybe in church? Lol seriously, I try not to dance like a crazy person all that often, it just happens sometimes!

  3. 3. What comes to mind when I say China? Right now, the dishes and the country at the same time.

  4. 4. What comes to mind when I say China? Since September 2001, and I’m pretty sure it was a prepaid phone at first.

Have fun!

I like to tell everyone, “have fun!” when they leave, or do anything for that matter. So when mom put a comment on Facebook that said she was going to bed I said, “have fun I guess?” Um… yeah, I just told mom to have fun while going to bed, instead of good night, or sleep well, or anything nice like that! How weird is that? I mean, have fun sleeping? Usually when we’re asleep we aren’t paying much attention to whether we’re having much fun or not, (are we?)

Words are fun!

So I was just looking at my Tumblr dashboard, and I follow a vocabulary blog, and for some reason, this inspired me to write a post on words. This well… this is when it starts getting strange! Because this is when I do some of my best stream of consciousness writing! So, here are some of my favorite words:

  1. Woohoo!

  2. What’s up? Although that’s more of a phraise.

  3. Cool!

  4. Thanks for that!

  5. Yay!

  6. Whoah!

Let's answer some questions from my file of over 2200 of them.

  1. 1. Have you ever washed an iPod or mp3 player in the washing machine? No, but I happened to drop my phone in the toylet last month, it just fell off the shelf where it usually sits while I’m taking a shower, right above the toylet. I reached in and grabbed it, and had to put it in rice for 48 hours.

  2. 2. It is your birthday. You hope the cake is? Well… let’s see, I’ll have to find a recipe and bake one, because I have rather specific instructions when it comes to cakes, mostly plane, and I’m not a fan of fruit centers.

  3. How old do people say you look? Not 30, somewhere around 15 or so.

I'm getting to that point.

The tired point that is. But what comes after the tired point? Well, as one former Blogathon participant wrote, (who wasn’t writing about blogathon at all when she wrote this,) “the place beyond exhaustion where hilarity lives.” It’s that stage I like to call, “the loopy stage,” and if I manage to succeed in getting there, all will be right with the world for at least 3-4 hours, (provided I’m able to stay in it that long.) I’ll be drinking instant coffee during that time, so hopefully that will keep the adrenlin flowing.

1300!

This is the 1300th post on this blog for me! Now one might wonder how I managed to accomplish such a thing. Well, I imported my Blogger posts to Tumblr when I switched over her posts when I switched to Tumblr, so I have all my posts from 2009 archived. That’s why I’ve hit 1300 posts, not 1300 posts on this particular blog, but 1300 posts since 2009.

I turn 30 this year.

I don’t have any plans yet, (we’re all going out of town over Christmas, so that pretty much takes care of any plans I have,) but here’s a list of things I wish I could do.

  1. 1. Go bungee jumping again.

  2. 2. Skydive again.

  3. 3. Get a laptop for the trip.

  4. 4. Do something I’ve never done before, like take a trapeze lesson.

Of course, even if I were able to do just one of those things, I’d be pretty happy, those are just some plans I’ve thrown around in my head over the past year.

Let's talk about Tumblr.

I want to leave here, because well. the design tweaks that were made right after the Yahoo acquisition , (maybe or maybe not as a result of it,) took away the post editing features. I can still get to them via a trick that I learned by researching, (it’s hard to explain, but it involves using the URL of the post,) but it makes me log in every time, so that’s annoying. Accessibility-wise, Tumblr has issues, not only that one, but their HTML editor isn’t easy to use either. I’ve been looking at Posthaven, but they don’t support imports yet. Once they do, I’ll be signing up, and using Posthaven, to post back here to Tumblr, (so that I can keep my followers. I explained in in a post that I don’t have time to go look for the link to right now, but it was posted on 7/17.

Some of my favorite quotes.

  • The future Belongs to the brave, not to the faint-hearted.” Ronald Reagan, in the 1986 challenger eulogy.

  • Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing, Helen Keller.”

I'm back.

With dinner eaten successfully, I think I’ll make another list.

  1. 1. I shouldn’t forget to put the pizza in the fridge later.

  2. 2. I’m now receiving mentions on Twitter.

  3. 3. So far, I think I’ve finished 3 bottles of water, and one bottle of PowerAid during the event.

  4. 4. I’ve texted back and forth with my caregiver a couple times today.

Audioboo is fun.

I think I’ve been on Audioboo since like 2012 or something, (actually, I’ve had an account since 2010, but never used the first one for some reason.) It’s especially fun when doing things like this, because when it gets to the late hours, I usually need something to do. Of course I don’t usually have anything substantive to say at those hours either, but it’s hilarious for me anyway. It wasn’t hilarious for my friend Mark though, he got to listen to me sing in 2010, and I promised never to do that again after that one!

Caramel twists.

Yet another candy from my order from nuts.com, these are caramel twists. Actually, these aren’t really “twists” at all, they’re more like round shape. They kind of remind me of milk duds, but that isn’t really what they are. I believe the site described them as milk, dark, and white chocolate covered, and I’m not sure all the combinations are present, but they definitely are rich. The caramel isn’t too soft, but it isn’t particularly hard either, not like the really hard, get stuck in your teeth stuff that milk duds does. I would describe it as a bit on the light and airy side, and yet it does have a slight stickiness to it.

Favorite pizza toppings.

Pizza really does sound good right now, and I’ll be ordering it in about an , (give or take, so here’s a list of my favorite toppings.)

  1. Pepperoni.

  2. Mushrooms.

  3. Olives.

  4. Saucage.

  5. Pineapple.

Actually, most anything, except any kind of fish, or anything really, really out there.

A PayPal account is almost like a bank account.

My aunt just messaged me on Facebook to tell me she was having the same problem as everyone else, she said she couldn’t use PayPal to donate because it said she needed to add funds to her account. OK… PayPal is in fact like a bank, (in most cases.) Except when it comes to adding funds, (it’s a bit more difficult, I’ll give you that one!) However there is a missing feature in this case, and I know what the problem is, it’s the “PayPal account optional” feature, that lets you pay with a credit card. I was able to do it just a couple hours ago while donating in fact, to Jess’s Charity. The thing is, you can’t use PayPal if you don’t have funds in the account, (that is, if you want to use just your PayPal account,) and you can’t use your bank account the same way either. Unfortunately, I only realized this problem 4 days ago, and didn’t realize it early enough to try and get it fixed.

Traditions are good.

I talked about ordering pizza earlier, and how that’s been a tradition since 2007, but what I didn’t talk about was having chef salad in the days before, (actually, I did make reference to it in the list of others people I should thank post.) That’s been a tradition since 2011, because my caregiver and I usually cook enough to last at least a few nights, well we realized back then that since I order pizza during blogathon, I really didn’t need that much, so we began preparing only enough food for the 3 days leading up to the event. Of course the nuts.com order has also been a tradition since 2011 as well, (actually that comes from 2010,) when I went to visit my friend who lived an hour and a half away at the time, and I got to go to a bulk candy store, I happen to take the trip over the 4th of July weekend that year.

This is how distracted I am already.

At like 3:50, I decided I didn’t really have time to post on the linkblog because I needed to write this post and get it published by 4:03, but I still had 13 minutes. 3 minutes later, I realized I still did have time, and started looking through my instapaper for links, without finding any to post, (I really need to clean that out.) After about 5 minutes, I realized I better give that up and come back over here, because my time was starting to dwindle, and I really needed to start working on this before it was too late. Wow, I can’t believe I’m this distracted already!

Chocolate covered potato chips.

So I decided to try the chocolate covered potato chips from the package I got from nuts.com. I’m not really sure how to describe these, they aren’t bad, and you do get the salty/sweet combination. It’s definitely more present in some pieces than others, depending on how thick the chip is, and how thick the chocolate covering is. The sweetness of the chocolate definitely neutralizes the salt to some extent, but there’s a salty aftertaste, although I did get one chip that was fairly thick, and the combination was present throughout.

How I use my phone.

I mostly use my phone using the Voiceover screenreader and Siri, but I also have a Bluetooth keyboard that I got for my birthday last year. I got this so I could type things into my phone like tweets and such, if Siri doesn’t understand what I’m saying, (which happens a lot of the time.) If I’m texting someone, Siri will misunderstand a word or 2 most of the time, so I have to use the Keyboard. In the Audioboo app, I need to type a title in after I’m done recording, (and I can’t use the touchscreen to type at all,) so this requires the keyboard.) I can use the screen for navigation, just not for typing purposes.

A list of things going on at this time.

  1. 1. My upstairs neighbors are vacuuming.

  2. 2. I need to record another Audioboo after this post.

  3. 3. I also need to post more links to my linkblog after I record the audioboo.

  4. 4. Sometime between doing all that, I need to manage to check my email, just in case.

  5. 5. Later, I’ll need to remember to check my AC bucket, so that I don’t forget to dump it, we don’t want a flood!

Some of my favorite worship songs.

I actually planned to post this one ahead of time, I just haven’t had time to get the Youtube embeds together until now. I’m not sure if they’ll all work correctly, but I hope they will!

Let's discuss disqus.

Because I changed my theme so that it would support timestamps, and the stupid thing didn’t support Disqus comments. When I changed the theme back to minimal, it didn’t reinstall disqus for me, (obviously,) not realizing this until Thursday, I had to get it reinstalled before today, because Tumblr doesn’t really support comments and the replies feature doesn’t work unless you’ve been following for more than 2 weeks. I’m not a huge fan of Disqus, (but it does do the job, until I can leave Tumblr that is.)

I'll be back after lunch.

I’ve just finished making my lunch, and after I post this I’ll be going to eat it. Actually, I made it during the last half hour, but I was multitasking, so I didn’t make it soon enough. Normally, I would have a friend post some answers to questions around the 12:00 hour so I could go take a break from blogging to eat, but he’s not here this year, so I get to post this post and say, “back in 30!”

The chat I just had.

Was about Facebook and flinching, among other things. She was asking me if I was working on a Windows 98 computer, and I was like um… no, but the system is almost 3 years old, and I did just recover from hard drive failure 3 months ago. Facebook is one of the only things that causes this to happen though. She asked me to explain flinching to her, and I explained it as the act of almost crashing, but not quite, slowing down to an almost unusable state. You could call that a freze, but the system usually does come out of it, (usually after closing the offending window.)

Being late isn't fun!

I’m not a huge fan of lateness. I like to be on time, so much so that I really didn’t think we would be on time to my doctor’s appointment last week. But, I’ve been late for a lot of my posts today, which bother’s me. I’ve been late enough to have to tweak the posting time, which bother’s me even more, but I haven’t had a miss yet, so that’s good. In my mind, what determines a miss is if you’re more than 10-15 minutes late, which I haven’t been, (yet,) and hopefully won’t be!)

First restart of the event.

Audioboo just decided to fail me, and I’m not sure why. It decided to stop recording when I wasn’t done twice, causing me to think I might have IE issues. I ended up restarting the computer just in case, but I might have to revert to using the iPhone app if this keep happening, which I don’t want to do. I really don’t like the way I sound on the phone, because of the background noise in my apartment.

Let's talk about process.

In other words, how I manage to stay up all night. I end up drinking lots of water, (of course.) But I also allow myself one well-placed cup of instant coffee, around 1-2 in the morning. I also eat a lot, (which I just completed during the last half hour.) Usually I eat somewhere around 8-10 times in 24 hours. What do I eat? It doesn’t really matter, the point of it is, you don’t want to make yourself sick by not eating. Now if you know too much of something will make yourself sick, obviously, you should stay away from eating too much of it. Usually too much of anything doesn’t make me sick though, (unless we’re talking exedrin, and I already learned that lesson in 2010!) I do order pizza during the event, and it’s a tradition going back to 2007, and I do get a can of Coke with my pizza, but besides that, it’s usually all water for me.

The official and obligatory "Facebook is doing what it always does" post.

In other words, right now it’s causing my computer to flinch, so even though I said I would try to be on the regular Facebook site today, I’ll have to use the mobile site, because I’m just not going to take that chance today. I don’t want to cause any extra issues, because well… that would just be bad, so sticking with the mobile site would probably be a wise thing to do. Oh yeah, and solving Captchas isn’t fun, and Facebook has already made me solve one today, because for the past month, I’ve probably shared way too many links to this here blog, and Facebook thinks it’s spam. Well it isn’t, so there!

I'm also posting links today.

As a challenge to myself, I’m posting links on my linkblog at webgurl.me. I was originally going to do a double shift blogathon, and try to take both blogs through the event, but in order to do that I would have had to pick a second charity. I decided to drop that idea, because I thought doing that might confuse some people, so I decided to unofficially post links today too, just for fun!

Other people I should thank.

My first list of the day goes to some other people I should thank, (of course my mom, my grandma, Ron and Kim for their donations!) but their are others!

  • Mom again, she makes a repeat appearance in this list for cutting my hair, and driving me to my doctor’s appointment last week.

  • My Facebook friends for putting up with all the spammy pitching I’ve done for the past 27 days.

  • My caregiver, (Melissa,) who took me grocery shopping, and prepared chef salad for me on Wednesday.)

  • Sylvia from the Dream Center, for listening to me complain about the PayPal issues.

I’m late right now, so I need to get this published!

And the RSS service I chose is...

When Google shut down Google reader at the beginning of this month, they left me hanging without a parachute for a while. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I tested a lot of services, (and by a lot, I mean a whole bunch!) None of them did what they said they would do for me though, or some of them were river of news format, (I really don’t like that,) or some of them were just plane inaccessible, (I couldn’t see my feeds.) I finally did find one though, and it’s called Bulletin! It does exactly what it says, it’s simple, and it allows me to see everything I need. I haven’t figured out how to set up folders yet, but I’m sure that will come later. I decided to subscribe to the service, (no, it isn’t free,) because I really do like it, and feel it’s worth paying for on a yearly basis.

My day yesterday.

In the last post, I talked about taking a nap yesterday. I also ended up installing email subscription forms on both blogs, (which is something I’ve wanted to do for a while,) installing disqus on the linkblog, (because I can’t use Tumblr replies,) and installing the twitter widget you see in my description. Why did I put all the stuff in my description, and not in the sidebar of the blog? Because Tumblr’s HTML editor is ridiculous when it comes to accessibility, and it doesn’t put the HTML right in the form, so I have to find it, and try to get it in the right place. I didn’t want to break things, so I just put all the stuff in the description.

I didn't sleep well last night.

Actually, I ruined the whole thing for myself, by taking a nap yesterday. The problem was, I layed down way too close to the time I went to bed and fell asleep on my couch. Oh and my Tumblr bookmarklet just decided to fail me when I needed it the most! I had to come to Tumblr to publish this. Anyway, I only got about 3 to 3 and a half hours of sleep last night, so this should really be fun huh?

Let's start this thing!

Good morning to anyone and everyone who might be up and reading this early in the morning, the day has arrived, and it’s time to start Blogathon! Just in case you don’t know, I’m blogging for a local charity this year, (Roseburg Dream Center.)
The Dream Center is a ministry under New Life Christian Center, that works to bring God’s love to our city by filling the requests of people that are in need. They do this by feeding the homeless, providing a food pantry, providing clothes for those in need, providing a warming center, and praying for those that request it. They also allow others to donate items such as furnature, clothing etc.
I’m extremely thankful to everyone who’s donated so far, and right now my total stands at $75! Mom and grandma are both donating $25, and Ron is donating $5, and Kim is donating $20. so thanks to everyone for donating! Now I’m running out of time, so I must publish this! Donation instructions will be in my signature. Oh yeah, I forgot the opening track, I started this last year, I usually begin and end with a song so, here it is:

Testing with my signature.

This is just a test post, to see how the signature I made yesterday, (that I’ll be using tomorrow,) will look. Since Tumblr doesn’t have a way to put this in automatically like Blogger did, I’ll have to copy and paste it in every time. It’s actually pretty long, so that’s what worries me a bit about it. I’ll also need to put timestamps in, because I needed comments more, so I had to change my theme back to minimal.

Quick update on totals.

I just posted a longer update on totals to my Facebook event, (I had to lay everything out,) but since I did that here last night, I don’t really have to do that. Today my friend Kim told me that she’s going to donate $20, so with the $25 donations from mom and grandma, and the $5 donation from Ron, adding hers makes $75! I know I have at least one more person who said she would donate, and I’m waiting to see if she does.

Updating totals, a change in donation instructions, and a warning to Tumblr followers.

First of all, I’m very glad to get to update fundraising totals! My mom and my grandma are both donating $25, so this makes $50, (thanks mom and grandma! Ron is donating $5, so this makes a total of $55 so far, (thanks Ron!) These donations are going to be given directly to the Dream Center via check, because we’re having problems using PayPal. You can still donate directly to the dream Center using PayPal by going to http://roseburgdreamcenter.org, but you must have an active PayPal account, and the account must already contain funds. You can’t use the feature where you just pay using a credit card, because the Dream Center doesn’t have that feature implemented as of yet. Alternatively, you can send checks to :
Roseburg Dream Center
747 SE Mosher AVE, Roseburg OR 97470. I would ask that you put Blogathon, or for: Blogathon in the memo, so they know what it’s for.
I’m also still asking that you notify me, whether you send a check, or try and donate through PayPal. Either by leaving a comment here on the blog, by emailing me at: born2fly83@gmail.com, On twitter at : Webgurl, or on Facebook, (either by sending me a private message, or by posting to my timeline or in my event.)
Finally, I do have to warn everyone following me here on Tumblr, posting every half hour for 24 hours will flood your dashboards, and for those subscribed to my RSS feed, it will flood your feed reader. So if you want to unsubscribe and/or unfollow, and follow/subscribe again later, that’s perfectly fine with me! Also for those using feed readers, feel free to use “mark all as read,” because I don’t have a problem with that at all!

We have guests in town.

My aunt from Tennessee, and a friend of her’s are in town. So we’re taking them rafting tomorrow. Mom actually called to ask me if I wanted to go on Sunday, and I told her no, because I don’t want to miss 2 church services in a row, (this weekend, and next weekend.) So she called back to say that we could go tomorrow instead! It was my dad that didn’t want to go tomorrow, because he wanted to have another garage sale, (seriously… how many of those do they need to have?) They’ve been having them for about a month at their house!) Oh yeah, in other news, I got my order of epicness yesterday, (on time, and in perfect condition!) I did try to reuse the heat resistant packaging though, and I don’t recommend that, because when you put them in the freezer, condensation builds up, if you put them back into the package, it leaks all over the items, which isn’t all that fun to deal with!

One week to go!

First, let me say that I had planned to write this post a bit earlier than I’m actually writing it, but I ended up going on a rafting trip with family, and we just got back a couple hours ago. Next, let me get down to why I’m actually writing this post. There are only 7 days until I stay up for 24 hours to blog every half hour to benefit the Roseburg Dream Center.

After donating I would then ask that you please find a way to get in touch with me and tell me the amount, so I can keep track of my total amount raised. You can do this either on Facebook, (by sending a private message, posting to my timeline, or in my event,) by emailing me at: born2fly83@gmail.com, on twitter at: webgurl, or by leaving a comment on my blog at: lifes-adventures.me. Thanks so much everyone, and God bless!

You can check out my blog at: http://lifes-adventures.me I’ll be blogging every half hour for 24 hours there on the 27th to benefit the Roseburg Dream Center, which is a local charity that’s affiliated with my church.

I started blogging 10 years ago today.

How do I know this? My archives from then, (however raw,) are still public. Starting July 17th, 2003, I created a blog on Diaryland which is more single-page diary format than blog format. The public archives of my diary from back then are right here. after being on Diaryland for a little over a year, I learned what I thought was enough HTML to move to a platform like Blogger, so I did. Turns out I needed to switch from Blogger a month later, for privacy reasons.
I switched to the no longer operational site journalspace.com, and as far as I can remember, I was there until I got my own domain until 2005. I ended up using self-hosted wordpress, (not wordpress.com,) until 2008 or 2009, (I don’t remember the last time I reinstalled it.) Wordpress kept breaking on me no matter what I tried to do with it, whether it was changing themes, or installing plugins, and not only that it would give you these random passwords that were not long, (but not memorable at all, I think I still only remember one of them today,) and I would lose them every few months. My database would not let me go in and change them, so then I’d have to reinstall the whole thing, losing everything I posted for the past months.
So then, I decided to switch back to Blogger in 2009, and this is why I have all my posts archived from then on. I was on Blogger for 3 years, even starting my linkblog webgurl.me there, but when they decided to change their interface to make changing settings and templates harder, that’s when I decided to switch platforms yet again. I first moved here to Tumblr in 2012, but even back then, had trouble with some of its features. I then went back to Blogger for a while, until coming back to Tumblr in February of this year.
In May of this year, Yahoo Acquired Tumblr. Maybe or maybe not as a result of the acquisition, Tumblr has made some design tweaks that have taken away the post editing features for me. I have found an URL trick to get them back, (and I explain it in this post, but it’s annoying, because I have to log in every time. I eventually will need to leave Tumblr, because I’m not one to write things in one take, I’m not sure what kind of design tweaks are yet to come, and not only that, Yahoo doesn’t have a great accessibility track record.
When I tried to switch last month, (so I could do it before my event on the 27th,) I looked at several services, all wanted to charge me for the use of multiple sites, (which I have,) and wordpress.com wants to charge me $50 a year for my domains. I’m currently watching the progress of a service called Posthaven, and I’m waiting for them to support some kind of import from Tumblr, (either direct or indirect,) so that I can switch to them. This is not a free service, but they only charge $5 per month for 10 sites, and they do not charge per domain like wordpress.com does. The guys at Posthaven are trying to rewrite a platform that was acquired by Twitter, and shut down, called Posterous. This platform let you pretty much auto-post to everywhere. It’s my goal to use either the auto-post features, (when they get them implemented,) or a service like IFTTT, and it’s RSS to Tumblr features to post my blog posts back to Tumblr. Why do this? Because in the past, when I’ve switched platforms, I’ve had people following me who… well… didn’t make the switch, this is a way to bridge the gap. You can subscribe to my RSS feeds on Posthaven, (and I’ll implement RSS to email subscriptions when I get there,) or, you can stay subscribed to my feed here on Tumblr, (or keep following here.) So that’s a little, (well, actually a lot!) on where I’ve been, and where I possibly might be going, now let’s talk about what I’m doing in the next 10 days.)
Just for some history, I started doing blogathons in 2006, when it was still an official event, and just because I’m a traditionalist, (and I look forward to it every year,) I’m about to attempt my 7th one in 10 days, to benefit Roseburg Dream Center, I’ll do everyone a favor by not making this post longer, (and filling it with instructions and explainers, but I made a page on my blog for that vary thing! It’s right here, so if you really want to read about what I’ll be doing on the 27th, that’s the link to click! OK, now I’ll attempt to TL;DR: this post, I started blogging when I was almost 20, I’m now almost 30, I’ve used a lot of different services, and I just wrote a huge treatise on the whole thing!

A simple fix.

Today my caregiver and I took my phone into Verizon. Last Thursday, I had to restore it twice, (once from backup, and once as a new phone,) because the screen reader wasn’t reading correctly. I was having volume issues with it after that, (even though it said it was all the way up in settings, it obviously wasn’t because I could barely hear my phone.) So we take it to Verizon, and what does he do? Adjust it using the volume button, now I thought that was the picture button, *( it is, it just acts as both things,) and my caregiver says she tried to do that, but she says maybe she didn’t press hard enough or something. So now I can hear my phone, and nowit’s loud and obnoxious.

I've placed my epic nuts.com order for this year!

Of course you’ll have to wait until 7/27 for the list of everything, because I’m just that way, (and that’s how I did it last year.) But I placed the order, and it should be here on Wednesday, yeah I had to use UPS 3 day select again this year. For those who don’t know, this is a pre-event tradition going back to 2011, in which I order a very epic box of candy from nuts.com. Why do I do this? Well, so I can have all sorts of exciting stuff to have during my 24 hours, but not only that, so I can have enough to last about 3 months after. Of course the 3 day select has to come with heat resistant packaging, so that hopefully nothing will melt. I haven’t had anything melt in the past couple years, but what I did have last year was a bit of a leak from the heat resistant stuff. They say it only lasts for 48 hours, but it seems to keep everything in the package cold for the entire 3 days.

We baked today.

My caregiver and I baked 2 things today, first, we baked m&M chocolate chip cookies, using this recipe, from Picky Palate, there were problems with the recipe though, and if you ever want to use it, you need to add an additional half stick of butter and another egg, and do a whole lot of mixing to get the recipe to work. Despite the issues though, the cookies did end up turning out perfectly! We also made these chocolate covered bananas. I have no idea if the Tumblr image uploader is working, and if you can put more than one picture in a post, but I’ll try. I’ve tried for 6 years to make chocolate covered bananas here, and had a lot of failures, but this time we had success using candy melts, which are little chocolate disks that you buy in these small containers, that are strictly made for dipping things into. OK OK, I’m sure you could use them for other things, (they seem quite flexible,) but that’s mainly what they’re made for.

Weird calls from my landlord.

I got a call from my landlord last night, asking me if I wanted to go rafting with him, and a group of his family members that are visiting from out of town. Of course I said no, because that’s just weird, and because my caregiver was coming today, (and I wasn’t sure what our plans were.) He’s probably in his late 50s, early 60s, and he’s asking me, (I’ll turn 30 next month,) to go rafting with him? Then I made the mistake of calling and telling my mother this,of course she completely overreacted, (but I also told her a couple other things I shouldn’t have told her, like a couple other comments he’s made in the past,) but now she wants me to move out of this apartment, (like… right now!) I don’t actually think he’ll do anything, he’s just one of those people that can’t keep their mouth shut when the right time comes, but mom doesn’t understand that, and she wants me to start the process of moving out, which involves extra paperwork since I’m a section8 rentor. Part of me doesn’t really want to move out over the landlord’s weird comments, but then again, this has been happening since I first moved in here, he asks me why I don’t do certain things, why I don’t leave the building more etc, so maybe it’s time to start thinking about leaving.

I went to church early today.

I went to church at 7:15 this morning, with my friend who’s on the worship team. She goes in early to practice, she plays the congas.
Today we heard a deaf pastor preach, through an interpreter. He talked about many things, we have a deaf church at our church, (and at several locations throughout our state,) he also talked about his work in mission field, and leading people to the Lord through golf. There was a part of the sermon that didn’t sit well with me, however. When he was talking about his work in the Dominican Republic, he said many of the deaf people were starting to become like americans, in that they’re starting to feel like they don’t need salvation. There of course are many causes for this, and we have a lot of young people leaving our churches today, (for as many reasons as there are people leaving.)
He began to blame it all on technology. From what I was hearing, he was saying that 1500 deaf ministries have shut down because of social networks and the internet. He said that because everyone can communicate through their phone, no one needs face-to-face communication. He also said that technology is one of Satan’s favorite tools, (everything can be used by Satan, by the way.) The way I interpreted this part of the sermon, it went very far down the road of “technology is evil,” which it actually isn’t. It can be used for both good and evil things, (the surveillance state for instance, likes to be able to track us and not tell us what they’re doing,) but I like to use it for good things, (like Blogathon, for instance, or maybe to live stream my church service on the day after.) OK, this turned out to be a really long treatise which I didn’t expect to have happen.

Hope everyone had a happy 4th of July!

I didn’t really do much today, my caregiver and I ended up doing laundry, then taking a trip to WalMart and RiteAid to pick up my prescriptions. Tonight I went to a fireworks show with my family, it was my niece’s first real fireworks show, because she was only 3 months old last year when they took her to our local summer festival, (which is in another, smaller town, and they had fireworks there, but she was only 3 months old. Anyway, I hope everyone had a nice day today, no matter how they celebrated!

Finding Tumblr's missing features, (sort of .)

Thanks to some URL hacking, I was able to find the post editor that was hidden from me in the design tweaks a while ago. What I wasn’t able to find were the backdating features, which I kind of needed for yesterday’s post, (actually, it’s dating the post for the future , so it stays at the top of the list.) But I did the next thing, and made it a page instead! I did have my caregiver look for it, but I didn’t look at the instructions ahead of time, so I wasn’t sure what I was looking for until just now. I’m glad I found the editor though, because it’s hard to write things in one take, and I did have to go in and fix some things this morning. The URL trick for the editor is: http://lifesadventuresme.tumblr.com/edit/54492651203/ So it uses the .tumblr.com instead of your domain name, (if you have one,) then instead of”/post/” it’s “/edit/” then the post ID. Yeah it makes you log in every time, but it works and you get the editor, instead of having to try and find an icon that I can’t find! OK, now that I’ve completely scared everyone away who’s coming here from Facebook, I’ll go ahead and save this.
