The newsletter that just won't get done.

I was supposed to send out the newsletter on Tuesday, but it’s Thursday night and I haven’t sent it out yet. I probably won’t get it done until tomorrow, hopefully tomorrow morning. I managed to post links to the linkblog yesterday and today, and all I have to do tomorrow is get the links from the personal blog together. Then I’ll put all the links in the newsletter form, write it up, and send it out. I think either this one, or the next one will be my last one, for several reasons the first being that after 6 months, I only have one subscriber besides me, and the second is that it takes an hour or 2 to put the newsletter together every week. Whether it takes 2 hours depends on how well Firefox and TinyLetter are working together that day, which is not so well on most days. The problem is that TinyLetter doesn’t support IE, and that would make things a lot easier! what I will probably end up doing is use Feedburner’s RSS to email service to deliver email updates that way, so that if for some reason anyone refuses to use RSS they can subscribe by email.

I thought I fixed it...

The constant Firefox crashing that seems to happen every 5 minutes here, that is. Of course I tried uninstalling Firefox last weekend and reinstalling it, and that didn’t work. Then this morning, I thought that it might be one of my extensions causing it, (as of now, I only have 2 extensions installed,) so I uninstalled the most invasive one, (which is noScript, to see if that was it. It worked for a while, but then it started happening again. So it obviously wasn’t NoScript, and I only have one more extension to uninstall to see if that’s what it is. Ultimately, as soon as I get the linkblog switched back to Tumblr, there really isn’t any reason for me to use Firefox, so if it keeps this up, I’ll probably just uninstall it.

I broke the TV last night.

By doing the same thing I did last month, picking up the remote I’m not supposed to use and changing the channel with it. We have dish, so if you do that, you pretty much kill the Tv. I ended up having to call my landlord to come over and fix it. After he got done, I put my old remote in a drawer, so that I don’t have to use it again. Somehow, changing the channel with that remote changes the HDMI inputs to 2 instead of 1, which it’s hooked into 1, so that’s what it needs to be on.

Yesterday and last night.

I ended up falling asleep last night, and waking up at like 12 in the morning. I went straight to bed after I woke up, so I skipped the blog post. I did start listening to the terraforming stuff yesterday, but I have like 16 CD’s to get through, then I’ll be done with the first book. I have a feeling that I’ll be able to write an explainer after I get through the first 3 or 4, though. I ended up reinstalling Firefox yesterday morning, because it was constantly crashing, so much so that I could hardly do anything with it. I had like 7 extensions installed, and I’m not sure if that was causing the problem, but it seems to work better now. I also ended up uninstalling LastPass, because I was having major syncing issues with it. It really didn’t seem to be syncing between both browsers, so I’d go to log into something in Firefox, and it wouldn’t work, because I changed the password from the password I was using to a LastPass one in IE. It would do the same thing in IE, not only that but since I was having this issue, I’d end up having to change passwords multiple times, causing LastPass to keep a long list of them, and me to not know which was the most recent, (and therefore, the correct one.)

Starting tomorrow.

I’m going to start listening to the terraforming CD’s I was given at our meeting tomorrow. I have a feeling I won’t get through them all in one day, what I’ll probably end up doing is trying to get to a couple a day. What I can’t decide though, is whether I should write one massive post about the whole thing at the end, although I have a feeling that once I get through the first 2 or 3, I’ll be ready to write the whole thing. It seems pretty repetitive and redundant, and the guy and his wife seem to say pretty much the same thing all the time. Since the people that picked me up yesterday decided to call me, and interfere with my recording eforts, this is how I have to do it.

Today.

I woke up with the worst headache ever today. I had to go to a meeting at the director of healing rooms and his wife’s house. I intend to write more about that in the coming days, as I want to try to explain everything that went on there. I came home with CDs to listen to, so after I listen to them, I’ll probably write about that. I did try to record the meeting on my phone, but the people who gave me a ride called after I started it, which stoppe the recording, (and I didn’t want to check it while I was there.) Of course the meeting was about there trip last weekend, and they were out of town at a Terraforming conference. Since I was given some CDs that explain it, I’ll write up key points on it, along with what happened at the meeting, probably sometime in the next couple days.

Answering a question.

What do you set your thermostat at? Do you change your settings for night? Unfortunately I don’t get to set the thermostat, because I have base board heat, and it’s either up or down. Usually, it’s either all the way up or all the way down, because turning it on half way doesn’t really seem to do anything. I do try to remember to turn my heater off at night, just like my AC in the summer. Sometimes I forget though, and end up waking up to a warm apartment in the morning. Via That’s my answer.

The 3 AM landline call.

I woke up around 3 this morning to my landline ringing. Mom called and didn’t say anything when I picked up, not only that but when I called her back, she dialed a series of numbers into the phone. I was debating on whether to call 911, because I don’t have their new address, (they just moved yesterday.) I called mom back, but she’d already turned her phone off, so it didn’t do that again. Then I called my dad’s phone, and he picked up. Turns out it was just mom’s phone being really, really stupid, and calling me by itself at 3 in the morning. I never get calls that early, so it was really scarry, because I had no idea what was going on. I called my sister twice to ask if she had my parent’s address, but of course she never answered because it was 3 AM.

Innoguration is tomorrow, and I'm missing it on purpose.

I normally have a tradition of watching presidential innogurations, but I’ve decided to miss this one for a couple reasons. First I kind of have to, because I’ll be at healing rooms in the morning, at least i’ll have to miss the parade stuff anyway. Second I really don’t want to hear the speech anyway, so it’s like why bother with any of it? Besides, I’ll be putting my newsletter together tomorrow afternoon. I decided because it’s only been 5 days since I sent the last one, I’ll at least give myself 6 days, so that it almost equals a week. I’m already tired, so I think I’ll be going to bed early tonight, like as in right after I publish this.

Today was internet freedom day.

Today was the anniversary of the SOPA/PIPA blackouts last year, and several organizations decided to declare it Internet Freedom Day. Which of course I thought was a good idea, because for a while I thought I was the only one that was remembering that today was the anniversary of our eforts. One of the things the site asks us to do is post something we love about the internet, now I’m sure you know where this is going. You knew it was going to end up as a list the moment I said that… right?

  1. The fact that I can follow so many things, without actually having to be there, from church services, to tech conferences, to legal cases, for instance.
  2. The fact that I can bank online, so that I don’t have to go to the bank all the time.
  3. Reddit
  4. Twitter
  5. Instapaper
  6. Google Reader, and RSS in general.
  7. The fact that right now, I can write something, or link to stuff, and not have it taken down, (yet.)
  8. The friends I’ve made, mostly over Twitter.
  9. The fact that I can also use Twitter for curation.
  10. Curation, except for the last week, because the last week was hard.
  11. TWiT live.
  12. Wikileaks Oh… there are some people in my life that will have issues with that one. I didn’t mean to imply that I have a direct association with wikileaks, or that I do anything more than support them, or respect their work.
Today was definitely a good day, although not epic like last year was. I had a list of a bunch of things I wanted to do throughout the week, and I was able to finish all the things on the list today.

I did it again last night.

Stayed up until 12:30 that is. I cleaned out instapaper, (not that part of instapaper, I have several folders, although I have stuff saved everywhere,) and was just doing stuff and before I knew it, it was 12:30. Of course that means I also didn’t sleep that well last night. Yeah, I need to stop this 12:30 thing, because it’s starting to become a habit, which is going to get really annoying after a while, especially if I don’t sleep that well. The past few days haven’t been the best though, and that’s probably contributing to the lack of sleep.

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Finally!

After sort of procrastinating since Sunday, I finally sent out the newsletter today. I say sort of procrastinating, because I also parcially place the blame on lack of sleep, and the fact that I had to go to a healing rooms luncheon yesterday, for reasons for not sending it out sooner. Not only that, but I had so many links in my instapaper folder, 3 unread twitter digests, plus a whole lot of tweets to catch up on, and I was putting that all off knowing that if I did any of it, I’d be stuck here for hours, like I was on Saturday night reading that Reddit thread. I wrote about the curation issue I was having in my newsletter, which is right here. OK OK, so I wasn’t prepared to send the newsletter out before I stayed up until 12:30 Saturday night. I did intend to get to it the next day, but we all know how the morning after effect works. I’m glad it’s done! I set a record of 1149 words, which is more than I’ve written for any newsletter.

Sunday, January 13, 2013

I stayed up way too late last night!

I stayed up until 12:30 this morning, reading a massive Reddit thread that had like 1400 comments at the time. In 99.99% of cases, I can usually pull myself away, but I couldn’t stop reading that. I only managed to get about 4 and a half hours of sleep last night though, because I woke up at 5 this morning, and couldn’t get back to sleep. How I managed to stay awake in church without falling over in worship, or snoring during the sermon, I have absolutely no idea! I’ve probably gotten about an hour and a half of sleep since then, but I’m definitely on my way to bed. The newsletter will have to wait until tomorrow morning again this week, as there are way, way too many links to be sorted through and selected tonight, and I really don’t want to end up staying up until 12:30 again.

We finally went to lunch today.

My friend, her boyfriend, and I finally went to lunch today. She made me sinnamon roles last night! I had to transfer them into airtight containers when I got home, because she just wrapped them in foil. I managed to eat a couple after I was done transferring them, (I had to eliminate a couple so there was room for one of the lids to fit on the pan,) and they’re really, really good! We went to a local chinese place for lunch, as we do every year. I invited her boyfriend this time, because he helps with the grocery shopping. I also usually take her out to lunch for her birthday, which is next month, but I’m not sure if I’ll do that or not, considering it’s so soon.

Maybe the 4th time is a charm?

we didn’t go to lunch today, I didn’t get to my friend’s house to walk on her treadmill until like 2:30 today, so we didn’t have time to go to lunch again. She says that we’re going to go tomorrow, but I have a hard time believing that at this point. It’s because she can’t get out of bed until like 12 in the afternoon that we have these problems, if she’d wake up 3 or 4 hours earlier, maybe things would work better.

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

Today.

I went to the chiropractor today, my friend and I had an appointment at 3. I managed to get JAWS 14 installed just before I left, even though I wasn’t sure things were going to work right away. My friend, her boyfriend, and I were supposed to go to lunch today, but her mom took her to lunch instead. Apparently we’re going tomorrow, but this is like the third time we’ve planned to have lunch together. I think I need to set up a reminder so that I don’t skip blog posts, I skipped the one last night just because I forgot. i can definitely do that with my phone, it’s just figuring out a time I want to be reminded, because I don’t get around to posting these until like 11 usually.

I'm a bit annoyed at TWiT this year.

It has to do with their CES coverage, or lack of it. For the past 3 years, (2010, 2011, and 2012,) TWiT streamed most all of CES, (OK, not all of it, because that’s like physically impossible even if you send 1000 people,) but as much of it as they could. They had a booth and everything, and I always thought the booth wasn’t all that necissary, just do floor coverage, but it was nice for them, (I’m sure,) and cool that they got to have it.this year though, they’re only streaming a couple things, completely unrelated to CES, (although Tech News Today is happening from there,) it isn’t the all day, every day, have a constant stream of floor coverage and booth interviews that has been for the past 3 years. So it’s safe to say that I find this year’s CES coverage lacking. Of course I can always go to CNET and read press releases, but I don’t really want to read press rleases now do I? I like the feeling of almost being able to be there, like it’s been for the past 3 years.

Headaches aren't fun.

I think I need to make a trip to the chiropractor, because I’ve had a headache for about a week now, (it started on Newyears day.) Usually, when I have headaches like this, it means I need to go to the chiropractor, so I hope I can get there sometime in the next week or 2. I decided not to do my Newsletter today, because I couldn’t sit up for long enough to put everything together. I’m going to try and get it done sometime tomorrow, most likely when I get back from healing rooms. I was going to give up the newsletter after the first of the year, but I decided to keep it going until I switch the linkblog back to tumblr, and maybe I’ll keep it going then too, (I’m not sure yet.)

Saturday, January 5, 2013

I almost skipped this post.

Because I ended up falling asleep and not waking up until now, and it’s almost 12 in the morning. Yeah, I’m definitely not a fan of falling asleep before I go to bed, because this is what happens. Today was actually one of those days where I got a lot of small things done. Deleted stuff I didn’t need, updated various lists I have, finally managed to post to the linkblog for the first time this year, (because I’m actually kind of in the process of switching that back to Tumblr as we speek,) and added to my collection of secure passwords.

Grocery shopping day.

Today was grocery shopping day for me, along with rent day. After we came back, my friend’s boyfriend took down my tree. They had to hurry, because he had an appointent. LastPass seems to still be working well, I think I managed to trick it though, because I have like 3 gmail addresses. I’ve only set up 2 of them, but I’m not sure if your supposed to do that.

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

I set up Lastpass today.

lastpass is a password manager. You give it one master password that you remember, then let it generate the passwords for your various online accounts. Since passwords are supposed to be secure, and never be the same for anything, you should never be able to remember passwords. That’s the problem, since my passwords weren’t ever the same, I could never remember which one I used for a particular site, and I’d always end up having to reset them. Lastpass seems to work well, although I haven’t really given it the ultimate test yet, (log out and then let it fill in the form to log back in.)

The obligatory 2012 highlights list!

OK, so last year I did it with links, this year, I’ll find links for a couple of the things, but most of them won’t have links because it isn’t really necissary.

  1. My baby niece being born! Even though I wasn’t allowed to be in the room with my sister while she was having her, I got to hold her right after, and it was still fun to say I came close to witnessing a birth. Launch day, otherwise known as delivery day!
  2. The internet blackouts of 1/18/2012. That was just an epic day, and I don’t usually have many really, really epic days, maybe 2-3 a year. I have good days and somewhat bad days, but not usually really, really epic, stay up for like 15 hours and participate in a blackout and know it actually had an effect on something kind of day. Today was…
  3. Seeing my aunt and unclefrom Maine, they came out last summer to see the baby.
  4. Doing blogathon, of course that’s always a highlight! I raised $210 for Samaritan’s Purse this year, which is more than I’ve ever raised before!
  5. Starting my Linkblog in May, and registering domains, (which was something I’ve needed to do since 2011!)
  6. Actually being able to deliver my testimony as a speech for the first time. I was at healing rooms while delivering it.
  7. Continuing to pray in the healing rooms, although I might have to leave this year. I enjoy praying for people, and I enjoyed getting to do this on Tuesday nights, (which was a lot more praying and a lo t less waiting/visiting,) instead of on Mondays where a lot of visiting takes place.
  8. Using lists to actually get things done, I did use lists for a long time this year. Unfortunately I fell off of it in about September, and I’d like to pick it back up again in 2013.
OK, that’s pretty much it, there are a couple other things I could put on the list, but I don’t feel like doing a whole lot of explanation, so I’ll leave the list the way it is.

Happy NewYear!

I just watched the ball drop in Times Square for like the 29th year, (seriously, it’s like a life-long tradition.) Now I’m doing all the things that I didn’t manage to do at an earlier time, both because I’m still up, and because maybe I’m not quite ready to go to bed yet, (but I will shortly after publishing this post.) Noone called me this year, (which is both good and strange at the same time,) but I got a text from my sister, (at least it wasn’t a call because well phones ring, and wake people up, including possibly sleeping babies upstairs.) Before you try to tell me sound doesn’t travel up, I can hear their phone, and they’ve told me that they can hear my TV so yeah.
