So I was doing the whole New Year’s Eve thing, then I realize oh hey… it would probably be good if I blog post sometime tonight. I was actually going to put together a list of my favorite blog 365 posts/highlights of 2011, but I’ll get to that tomorrow. I’m finishing blog 365 tomorrow, but I’m also starting over. I’ll be staying up until midnight to watch the ball drop, and then I’ll be going right to bed, because I have to get up early for church tomorrow. This New Year’s Day on Sunday business is definitely kind of annoying! Normally, I don’t get up until about 9 on New Year’s morning, but I’ve set the alarm on my phone to get this… wake me up at 6. I’m going with my friend who happens to be on worship team tomorrow, so we have to be there at 8:15.

Domains by proxy decided to make the transfer process too ridiculous. They wanted me to send in an email address update request form, that included taking a picture of my photo ID and sending it in along with the form. Basically, they told me to fill out the form, print it out, sign it, date it, take a picture of it along with my photo ID and email it into them. I decided that I didn’t want to put up with the whole mess, and that I’d just let the domain that I’ve had for 5 years, (since 2006,) expire. It will expire on 1/15/2012, and I plan to either re-register it the day it comes out of the expiration redemption phase, or just get a different domain. I intend to use Hover, as my domain registrar of choice. in the end, it wasn’t the GoDaddy interface or some other thing that stopped my transfer, it’s the fact that I don’t have all the information that I need and in order to get it I have to, (as I told the DBP support,) fill out a form that’s like trying to get a lone, buy a car, or verrify that I’ve recently become deceased, and all this just to update an email address. After 1/15 I’ll be using blogspot until the redemption period is over, and I can re-register the domain again.

Today I had to go to the bank, to deposit a check that dad gave me for mom’s kindle. I almost got twitter working with siri today, but it wouldn’t let me send back the final confirmation message for some reason. Everyone tells me I should just use the twitter app, instead of trying to do it with texting. I took steps toward transferring my domain today, I have a private registration account that I have to cancel before I transfer though, I’ve never logged into that account so finding the information for it is proving to be difficult. If they don’t have my email address on file I’m supposed to complete a form that entails, (get this…) scanning in and sending a copy of my photo ID. The problem is that I’m not sure which email they have on file, and it’s a separate company so GoDaddy obviously doesn’t want to help me with that. If I can’t transfer, I plan to let the domain expire and then either re-register it at a different registrar, or get a different domain. I’ll never use GoDaddy or Domains by proxy again in my life though, that’s for sure! There’s a reason why I was transferring today, as per this thread on reddit. I was able to go into GoDaddy’s domain manager, and unlock the domain though, so that worked without a problem. But I’m sure domains by proxy are going to ask me to send in a photo ID to update my email address. I wonder if that’s what people on twitter meant when they were saying that GoDaddy requires a photo ID to transfer domains. The weird thing is, they’ve never asked for a photo ID before, and so they don’t have one on file for me. Sending in a photo ID to update an email address well… it really doesn’t make any sense whatsoever!

This is my 700th post! I knew I was getting close, but didn’t realize I was that close until I looked just now. This morning I looked up how much data siri uses, it really depends on the use, but if you use it 15-20 times a day it’s probably about 30 MB per month. The problem is that I probably used siri about 40 times yesterday, (if not more.) Some of it was just having fun, but mostly I was trying to set up different things and texting different people. I slowed down today because well… I don’t want to eat all the data in one day. Yeah yeah people tell me I’m supposed to have wi-fi, my router isn’t even plugged into anything because the cable doesn’t reach, and I need to get a new one. Then I have to plug the router in and reset it, because I don’t remember what the password is, or wait… I never knew in the first place because I didn’t set it up. I thought I remembered the person who set it up say that it was my home phone number, but it’s obviously not that, because I locked myself out trying to find the password so that I could put my iPod on the wi-fi.

I got my iPhone activated at verizon today! I learned how to text first, and that’s been probably the most fun thing I’ve done in a while. I’ve been asking/telling siri all day. I asked her “where are you?” She said, “it’s classified.” I just laughed outloud because I so didn’t expect that. I’ve been trying to set up twitter though and it’s kind of failing, I’m not sure why. I wish it would actually work although mom said I’m not allowed to do twitter when I’m not at home. Fine… whatever! But it would just be easier to text to facebook, because facebook is very complex! I wish we had unlimited everything, but mom asked if I was going to pay for that. I’d pay for it for me but not them. I got a 5 gig data package, I was going to actually go for 10 because well I think siri uses lots and lots of data. Mom switched my sister’s boyfriend, (the leach,) to 5 gigs because he just keeps sucking down data like it’s the end of the internet… oh wait…

I actually got to go and stand in the healing room for the first time today. We had family members and friends of the director come so that we could actually practice praying for them. Normally, people in training aren’t allowed to say anything if it’s an outside person, but if people on the team know the person it’s a little different. I actually did enjoy being in there, even though I wasn’t really sure I would. After we got done at church, we all went out to eat. I think mom and I are going to verizon tomorrow, or at least that’s what was agreed upon yesterday, (but plans change a lot in my family.) I’ll probably spend at least a couple hours there because they’re going to activate the phone and train me on siri. I’m going to send a list of instructions to mom for using twitter and facebook with siri, (siri doesn’t support that directly, but you can use texting as an intermediary.)

I got back about an hour or so ago, and I’m catching up on most things that I missed, (I was only gone over night, but still had a lot of email etc.) We managed to make it to church on Christmas eve for the first time since 2008! For a while there I wasn’t sure we were going to make it because my sister’s boyfriend’s x wife showed up to get her kids, and she brought her baby. We really had to hurry, but we finished dinner to get to church on time, (actually we were early!) As everyone definitely knows by now I make a list every single year, but what I wanted most wasn’t on the list this year because I thought that it was going to be way too expensive! I really wanted an iPhone 4s, and well… guess what was under my parent’s tree? Yeah, and iPhone! Verizon originally said it wouldn’t ship until the 29th because they’re backordered, but they called mom on the 22nd to tell her that it was here. She wrapped a gift certificate and the contract just in case it didn’t get here in time, but it did! I thimk mom and I will be taking a trip to verizon on Tuesday to get it set up. I actually think I’ll need to upgrade the data package because I believe siri pulls data, and they only gave me 2 gigs, (and my sister’s boyfriend goes over every time!) Oh yeah I’m skipping weekly links this week.
Saturday, December 24, 2011
So before I head off to my parent’s house for Christmas, I’ve decided to make the list of some of my favorite Christmas songs.
- A baby changes everything, Faith Hill.
- Breath of heaven, Amy Grant.
- I believe, Natalie Grant.
- Believe, Josh Groban.
- Let it be Christmas, Allen Jackson.
I’d say that my favorite Christmas carols are “Oh holy night,” and “Oh come all ye faithful,” but I’ve listed some non-obvious ones, (hopefully.) I’d like to wish everyone reading a very Merry Christmas! I’d also like to say thanks for reading throughout the year, and I’ll definitely be doing this blog 365 thing next year!
PS, I should be back from my parent’s house sometime tomorrow night, (because I actually have to go to healing rooms on Monday.)

I got all my shopping done today! I went to lunch with mom, grandma, and my sister and went shopping afterwards. I had no idea we were going to lunch until mom called me and asked me if I was ready. Yeah, that’s how things work in my family, they plan stuff and don’t tell me.
Thursday, December 22, 2011
My friend and I baked Christmas cookies today, and wrapped gifts. I’m not a very good gift wrapper, in fact, I usually only wrap gifts once a year so I can never remember which way to fold this and that, and where everything goes etc. I say so far, because tomorrow I’m going shopping with my sister to finish shopping for my mom. I was going to do a Thursday 13 of my favorite Christmas songs, (not the carols, but the songs that have been written in more modern times.) I decided not to do that, although I might, (and only if I have time,) either do it tomorrow or Saturday, although not in Thursday 13 form. As in, I’m not going to come up with a list of 13 songs, but there might be 5 or 6 or maybe even 7, who knows? I had a close call just a few minutes ago, I was watching a youtube video, and everything just decided it would like to flinch, (the video stopped playing and everything.) I had to restart the system, and had the thing happen where well, it didn’t quite start up all the way. I think I ended up trying it about 3 or 4 times more before it decided that it wouldn’t mind booting correctly. Needless to say, I’m kind of afraid to go and watch youtube again, because I really, really don’t want the same thing to happen!
Wednesday, December 21, 2011
No no, I’m not talking about the actual internet radio show, “things and stuff,” it just seemed like a good title, although I’m not sure why. Just for fun, let’s make a list… shall we?
- I’m actually going to do the baking and wrapping tomorrow, my friend is coming over to help and she didn’t want to do it today.
- I’ve decided that doing the twists is just so much fun that I wouldn’t mind doing it every day.
- My sister called to tell me that she and I could go shopping together afterall, I’m still not done with shopping, (I have to get stuff for mom,) but shopping with my sister is a tradition going back to 2009.
- I’m sure I’ll have some last minute gift wrapping to do if that’s the case.
OK, I forgot to embed this yesterday, because… well… I actually don’t know why. This is the song that I’ve been twisting to, (oh… that sounds bad!) I could definitely do the twists to just about anything though.

I went to the VA this morning knowing that I probably wouldn’t go in next week, because well… it’s the week after Christmas, afterall. I didn’t realize that today would be my last day, in facct I had no idea. When I got in there, they told me that because the volunteer supervisor in my department is retiring, (her last day is on Friday,) that there would be a shortage of people there. I understand this, we’ve had volunteers in the past, but there aren’t any there right now that I’m aware of. I didn’t really ask questions or say anything, they gave me a sufficient reason. They said they’ve already contacted my commission counselor, and I’m a bit annoyed that she didn’t tell me before hand, but whatever. The paratransit guy rang my bell this morning, to tell me that I had a UPS delivery attempt notice. It said that they tried to deliver a package yesterday, but… well… I was here all day yesterday! I did fall asleep at one point, but the buzzer is actually really loud, and has definitely woke me up in the past. I called UPS today, because I wanted them to know I was actually here and waiting for the package. A little while after I called, they came. I was watching twit live earlier today, and on TNT, (tech news today,) they said that the hearings for the Stop Online Piracy Act, (SOPA,) had been postpoaned… again! First they were delayed until 2012, then they were going to happen Wednesday, now it’s well… we’re not sure when the hearings are going to happen.

I was supposed to go to healing rooms today, but the guy who said he would remember to come get me well… didn’t. We actually had this same probem last week, but the lady that helps run the healing rooms called him, and told him that he was supposed to be there. This time, I waited downstairs for 15 minutes before I called the lady to tell her that he didn’t show up. She said that next week, (that’s right, we’re meeting the day after Christmas,) she would come get me so that I don’t have to miss. She goes to the church an hour early though, to help set up, so I’ll have to be going an hour early.

Last week was a fairly busy week, so there are a lot of links I could post. I’ll start with the 2 wikileaks related things that happened last week.
- Bradley Manning lawyer wants new judge, from CBS news This is a bit of a summary of the military hearings that started on Friday, in the case of the accused wikileaks source.
- UK’s Supreme Court says WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange granted appeal against extradition, from the Washington Post.
- Universal yanks TWiT’s ‘Tech News Today’ episode from YouTube due to Mega Video clip, from VentureBeat.
- there’s also this, from The verge. This is also about the Tech news today megaupload thing.
- The nightmarish SOPA hearings, from the Washington Post. Nightmarish indeed! These things went on for 11 hours with only one recess on Thursday!
- SOPA Markup Runs Out Of Time; Likely Delayed Until 2012 [Update: Or Not…] from techdirt. The “or not” part is what’s extremely annoying. Apparently for some unknown reason, (seriously… has anyone ever known congress to come back from a break prematurely?) members of the house judiciary committee will come back on Wednesday to finish the SOPA hearings. Yep, that’s 4 days before Christmas! I’ll probably be baking cookies, and wrapping gifts on that day, but I’ll also be streaming these SOPA hearings, just like I did on Thursday.
I have 2 youtube videos to embed here, one is the megaupload video, and the other one is a SOPA song. This guy isn’t the greatest singer ever, but this does a good job of explaining the situation.
Apparently youtube has a problem with me trying to embed more than one video or something, because both of the embeds failed the first time, when I took the 2nd one out, the first one worked fine. here’s that megaupload video

I didn’t really do all that much today, as it’s Saturday, and I usually don’t do a whole lot on Saturdays. My friend decided to tell me at 11:30 this morning, (with no other advanced arrangement, that she isn’t going to church tomorrow.) I haven’t gotten a hold of my other friend yet, and well… as I said last time this happened we don’t have paratransit that runs on Sunday’s here. For some reason, I’m actually fairly tired, and I’ll be going to bed after publishing this post.
Friday, December 16, 2011
Not busy as in I went here, then I went there, but busy as in everything happened at once. First, the Stop Online Piracy act hearings started for another day this morning, but I woke up late and had too much email so I missed the morning session. Then, the military pretrial hearing for the accused wikileaks source started today. On top of that, the wikileaks founder was granted an extradition appeal to the British supreme court. Oh yeah, and guess what? Today was the day mom and I were supposed to go Christmas shopping. We did go Christmas shopping, and I got everyone done but mom, (because I obviously can’t shop for her… with her.) When I came home, I tried to stream the SOPA hearings, because I thought they’d go 11 hours like they did yesterday. I streamed them all day yesterday, until like 6:00. My stream wasn’t working, and I wasn’t sure why. It turns out that the hearings, (called a mark-up,) has been delayed for the rest of the year because concerns of those of us who are in opposition are “legitimate” according to the judiciary committee chairman. When I came home the hearings were also over in the case of the accused leaker, but they’ll start again tomorrow. I guess the military likes to hold hearings on Saturdays, or something.
Thursday, December 15, 2011
I watched house committee hearings all day today. The hearings were on SOPA, the stop online piracy act. It’s the kind of hearing that people offer amendments to the bill, and they get voted up or down. The hearings weren’t over when I tunred them off at 6:00 tonight.

Do you shop off of lists that people make for you, or do you get them what you think they’d enjoy? I actually try to do both, I try to get a couple things from the list, but if I know they want something or I think they’d like something, then I’ll get it for them. I do try to stick to the list as much as possible, because someone took the time to make a list, and the list is usually the best guideline.

Mom and I are going shopping for my dad on Friday. I’ll need to go shopping with dad for mom, but I’m not sure when he’s going to go. My sister and I usually go shopping, but she can’t go until the 23rd because that’s when she gets paid.
Tuesday, December 13, 2011
What is the most unique gift you’ve ever given and/or received? I received a skydive for my birthday one year, mom and dad paid for it. Actually, they paid for it both times I went skydiving. As for the most unique gift I’ve ever given, I’m not really sure.

I went to the VA today, and got done with the weekly project fairly fast. It seemed like the computer I work on was completely restored sometime in the last week. I had to reset all the JAWS settings, word wanted me to put in my name and innitials, and I couldn’t get outlook configured for the life of me. It reminded me why I don’t use outlook here, because reconfiguring it isn’t all that fun. After the VA, my friend and I went grocery shopping. It was the first time my friend and I had gone grocery shopping without anyone else there, it was actually kind of fun!
Monday, December 12, 2011
I went to healing rooms for the first time today. I actually got there late, because the guy who was supposed to come get me well… forgot to come! Instead of getting there at 10 when we were supposed to be there, we didn’t get there until almost 11:30. You have to be prayed in when you get there, and prayed out when you leave, so since we were late, they had to pray both of us in after we got there. While we were there, they basically told us everything they do when someone comes in although we pretty much knew that already. We call the people that come to get prayer, “prayer seekers.” We had one today, but I didn’t get to sit in. I think I probably will get to next week though. On the way home, the guy I was riding with said, “isn’t it funny that people who are praying for others are sick in some way.” I had to correct him, and tell him that I’m not exactly “sick.” Then he said, “what do you call it, an infirmity?” I basically told him that I don’t see blindness as positive or negative, but just a part of life. I was supposed to go grocery shopping today, but we’re going tomorrow instead. I’m kind of glad about that, because I was kind of tired after I got home for some reason.

This week, I have several articles that I’ve found interesting, so I decided to post them.
- On The Anniversary Of Cutting Off WikiLeaks, PayPal Slaps Christmas Charity Project, from forbes.com
- CATS 1, KIDS 0, from regretsy. This is the post by the administrator of the site that paypal decided to block, here’s the update post
- Hillary Clinton and Internet Freedom, from salon.com
- Julian Assange’s WikiLeaks: Ten Days That Changed The World, from the Huffington post. This is long, but most definitely worth it!
Finally, there’s this which was written last year. It’s a bit hilarious!
Saturday, December 10, 2011
I’m defering weekly links until tomorrow. I do have links, but I haven’t decided which ones I’m going to post or anything. I just rememberd that I hadn’t posted yet for today and I was like oh, I better do that before I decide to go to bed and forget. I also don’t have the links in pinboard yet, they’re sitting in instapaper right now. I’ll be going to church tomorrow morning, I think we’re going to second service. After church, I offered to take my friend buy a phone for my friend, because her home phone doesn’t hold a charge anymore. I told her that that would be part of her Christmas present, (I’m also going to take her out to lunch at a local chinese place.)
Friday, December 9, 2011
I actually didn’t do a lot today. My friend Mark and I talked on skype today, but otherwise I didn’t really do much. I was supposed to go grocery shopping Monday, but I have to go to the healing rooms instead. I’m not sure when we’re going to go grocery shopping, but I’m sure we’ll be going sometime next week.
Thursday, December 8, 2011
Today was the healing rooms potluck, I brought chips and salsa. I was nervous at first, but I actually had fun. At the end we all sang Christmas carols, but before that, every one of us got prayed for. It was one of those things where, we all took turns praying for each other. I’m sort of used to that style of prayer, but not all that used to it. I used to work at a christian company in 2005, and that’s how we prayed for everyone. I’m supposed to go and start my training on Monday as in, I’m supposed to go and watch people pray for the people who come into the healing rooms.
Wednesday, December 7, 2011
how much of your holiday shopping is done? I’ve ordered the gifts for my sister, but I don’t have anyone else done. I know I’ll get it done before Christmas though! I’m not all that stressed about it, my theory about Christmas is that you either have to enjoy it or be stressed about it.
Via that’s my answer
Tomorrow is the healing rooms party, I’ll be going at around 11, but the party starts at noon.

I had an interesting day today at the VA. When I first went there, they were having a birthday party, and I got to eat too! After the party was over, I did the weekly project. I was asked during the party to research rules and supplies for Pictionary. So after I finished the project, I went on the internet at the VA for what pretty much was the first time. I use their internet for email, and I needed to look up an excel keyboard shortcut once, but other than that, this was my first time using the internet at the VA. I did a Google search, “official rules for Pictionary,” without the quotes. I wanted to be as specific as I could be, because these were my instructions. I did the search without problem, but the first link I clicked brought up the message, “web access denied.” For the first time at the VA, I was facing the censor, even though I was doing exactly what I was asked. I knew this day would come eventually; I’ve never really used the internet there, because I disagree with the policy that every single thing has to be censored. Last year when mom was in the hospital, YouTube and most streaming sites were blocked on the Wi-Fi network I was using. I even tried to use a proxy to get around the censors, but the proxy sites themselves were blocked. As for the Pictionary game, I offered to do the research here at home, write up the instructions and send it to them at the VA. In all of this I realized 2 things, first, the people in my department most likely have no idea just how censored their internet connection really is. They wouldn’t have asked me to do this, or would have asked if I’d consider doing it at home, if they knew that the sites were blocked. Second, if we allow the “Stop Online Piracy act,” or the “Protect IP” act to pass, this will happen on a regular, everyday basis. In this case I got around the censorship by offering to do it at home, because my connection here is unfiltered. However, if we allow “SOPA” or “PIPA” to pass, these are the exact same problems we’re going to have on our home internet connections… each and every day.

I was up at 1:30 this morning to follow what were probably the most important extradition hearins in the wikileaks founder’s case. I actually wanted to stay up for 4 extra hours, I really did! I wasn’t prepared for that though, and I had a head ache. Let’s see if I can get this right, because the british justice system is still extremely well… foreign to me. They rejected most of the points that the defence attorneys put forth, but they said that the case is of general public importance, so Assange was given the right to file an appeal with the supreme court. Of course it’s up to them as to whether or not they’ll actually hear the case, the appeal has to be filed within 14 days. This is pretty much the first time in a year we’ve had good news in this case, since Assange was granted bail on 12/16/2010, )actually it was 12/14, but there was an appeal by someone from the prosecution side, so he was released on the 16th.)
Here are a couple links, just for reference in case my summary was incorrect.
- WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange to take fight to British Supreme Court, from latimes.com
- WikiLeaks Founder Can Make Final Bid to Avoid Extradition, from nytimes.com
This is the first time I’ve gotten to play this song in a year, so here it goes:
Sunday, December 4, 2011
Exactly 4 hours from now I’ll be getting up to follow the final and most important extradition hearings. I think I’ll be able to sleep and get up without problem though, because I’ve been asleep for about 2 hours. I didn’t really do much today, I did go to church, and afterwards I went to the store to get stuff for the healing rooms potluck next week. OK, time for me to get to bed!
Saturday, December 3, 2011
I started my Christmas shopping tonight, I ordered one of 2 gifts for my sister. So, here are some of the links I promised.
- here is the site for the documents on the surveillance industry. You can also access the documents by going to http://spyfiles.org
- WikiLeaks’ Spy Files shed light on the corporate side of government, from Engadget.
- Spy Files: WikiLeaks Releases Surveillance Industry Documents, from Mashable.
So there are some links on the spy files. I think I’ll make the final extradition hearing post a separate one, because I have yet to look up when it’s supposed to start although I’ll surely be doing that tomorrow so that I can plan my sleep schedule for tomorrow night!
Friday, December 2, 2011
What time did you wake up this morning? I actually woke up later than I woke up yesterday, about 5:45, whereas yesterday I woke up at about 3. I was extremely tired yesterday and slept a lot, so I took tylenol PM last night.
Via that’s my answer
I know I said I might write about yesterday’s wikileaks release today, but I’ve decided to make it weekly links. So that means I’ll be doing it tomorrow, and since Monday is the final extradition appeal hearing, I might put some of that in there too. I think it’s time for dinner.
Thursday, December 1, 2011
Do you make a list of everything you need to pack when you go on vacation, or do you just grab what you think you’ll need as you are stuffing your suitcase? I don’t actually make a list of everything I need to bring, because I obviously know I’m supposed to bring clothes etc. What I do make a list of are the things I need to do, (that I wouldn’t remember,) or the thing I’d need and I wouldn’t be happy if I forgot.
Via thats my answer
I got up really, really early this morning! Wikileaks had a press conference today, to release documents on the surveillance industry, (I’ll probably write more about that tomorrow.) I wasn’t sure what time this press conference was starting, but I kknew I wanted to be up for it. I ended up getting up around 3, and I hadn’t even planned to get up early. I wasn’t sure when it was going to start, so I just got up when I first woke up.
